Charlie Project (CryptoArt)

Children’s Crypto inspired Art for Education

After a very successful campaign with AirdropVenezuela.live and Cryptograffiti we began to define the second phase of our efforts in Cucuta. The focus of which is education through action. Our main lesson from that event is that we could use art to not only teach children through fun activities but also raise funds to support efforts in the area focused on keeping children off the streets.

The experience we had led us to ask the question: Can we sell art to raise awareness and funding? The answer was not at all clear to us, as our first set of paintings from our Christmas dinner did not sell well during an auction the pieces were sent to. However, a visionary artist Johnny$ took not of our project and volunteered to teach us how to create Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs aka. CryptoKitties) from pictures of the art itself.

So after a short class from Johnny$ we minted our first Artists Liberation Front (ALF) Rare Digital Art Token:

Art in Protest was purchased for 18 Dai Stablecoin (DAI) equivalent to $18 USD

However, through that experience, we decided that curating the tokens created by our project would be an important factor in keeping a clear message about the purpose of such a token. In an amazing act of kindness, Johnny$ took the expense to rewrite the smart contract and host out of pocket a fork of his project specifically for us, and the Cripto Conserje (CSRJ) Rare Digital Art Token was born.

The first five CSRJ tokens were pre-purchased OTC by a very generous sponsor for 0.012444332 BTC $100 USD while at #Consensus2019

Our latest NFT sold for 200 DAI (Ethereum based @MakerDAO stable coin tokens) and was created as part of our latest Beta test No. 1 where we partnered with a Conference and of course we picked NON central CONF to do an event focused on helping “caminantes” or the walking Venezuelan refugees. That test involved the theme of burning the old to make way for the new. In order to give participants of the conference the ability to participate, we created and NFT for the event:

These tokens can represent a source of income for the schools and children that make them once they learn how to do it on their own from our continued work towards this promising direction of testing cryptocurrency for financial inclusion.
